Welcome to the White House

The media has begun to discover a truth about professional development in the Obama White House: Women best look elsewhere.

The new year has seen President Obama offer up three of the left's bedeviled "old white men" to key administration positions, as his most popular cabinet official, Sec. Hillary Clinton, bids adieu to the cabinet. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis joined Clinton Wednesday, announcing her resignation.

The media has taken notice.

Concerns over the lack of diversity have not been assuaged by a photo uploaded to the White House Flickr stream depicting an all-male cadre of administration officials meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, as first noted by the Free Beacon earlier this week.

New York Times reporter Annie Lowrey covered the photograph in Wednesday's paper, writing, "In an Oval Office meeting on Dec. 29, 10 of President Obama’s top economic advisers stood before him discussing the heated fiscal negotiations. Every one was a man." Lowrey went on to note the lack of women in President Obama's second-term cabinet nominations, a hold-over from his first term, in which male appointees outnumbered female appointees at 11 of 15 federal departments.

(Former deputy Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter made a correction Wednesday: The leg of Valerie "Night Stalker" Jarrett can be seen in the photo.)

The gender divide is not a new problem, either.

The White House, as the Free Beacon has reported, paid female staffers 18 percent less than their male colleagues in 2011. That year, TIME Magazine reported on Obama's "woman problem" in an article entitled, "The White House Boys' Club."
