Trump: We'll Look at Gun Laws 'As Time Goes By'

October 3, 2017

Following the largest mass shooting in U.S. history, President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his administration will look at the country's gun laws "as time goes by."

Before Trump boarded Marine One to visit Puerto Rico in the wake of the devastation there following Hurricane Maria, Trump answered questions regarding the shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday that killed 59 people.

"Look, we have a tragedy, and what happened in Las Vegas is, in many ways, a miracle," Trump said. "The police department has done such an incredible job, and we'll be talking about gun laws as time goes by."

Trump then continued to praise the Las Vegas Police Department for their swift actions to respond to the massacre. Regarding the shooter in Las Vegas, Stephen Paddock, Trump said he was a "sick man."

"He was a sick man, a demented man, a lot of problems, I guess," Trump said. "And we're looking into him very, very seriously. But we're dealing with a very, very sick individual."

Democrats in Congress have pushed for action on gun control laws in the wake of the shooting and blasted Republicans. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.) said Republicans were "too cowardly and too weak" to oppose the gun industry.
