President Donald Trump tweeted support Wednesday for Rep. Kevin Cramer (R., N.D.), who is challenging North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D.) this November.

Trump said, "We need Kevin in the Senate, and I strongly support him."

Cramer was recruited by Trump to run against Heitkamp but has expressed that he wants more help from the White House in his race.

The president has not attacked Heitkamp with the same furor that he has attacked other red state Democrats like Sen. Joe Donnelly (Ind.) and Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.). Still, Trump criticized her for voting against Republicans' tax reform law.

"We need Kevin in the Senate, and I strongly endorse him," Trump wrote. "Heidi voted NO on our Tax Cuts, and always will vote no when we need her. Kevin is strong on Crime & Borders, big on Cutting Taxes!"

While Heitkamp voted against the 2017 tax cut law, she has tried to highlight her bipartisan positions in her re-election campaign. Her campaign released an ad that touts her voting with President Trump more than half the time.
