President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday morning that at some point he will have "no choice" but to get involved after the Justice Department refused a request from lawmakers to obtain documents detailing the scope of the Mueller investigation.

"A Rigged System - They don't want to turn over Documents to Congress. What are they afraid of? Why so much redacting? Why such unequal "justice?" At some point I will have no choice but to use the powers granted to the Presidency and get involved!," Trump tweeted.

Republican Reps. Mark Meadows (N.C.) and Jim Jordan (Ohio) requested documents from Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein pertaining to a numerous of subjects, including the surveillance of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. They were reportedly denied because the requested documents pertain to an ongoing criminal investigation.

It has been reported Meadows has been drafting articles of impeachment for Rosenstein, to which the deputy attorney general said the Justice Department would not be "extorted."

In a statement, Meadows said Rosenstein’s "response to the draft articles of impeachment is reminiscent of our interactions with him over the past few months: a lot of rhetoric with little facts."

"If he believes being asked to do his job is ‘extortion,’ then Rod Rosenstein should step aside and allow us to find a new Deputy Attorney General — preferably one who is interested in transparency," Meadows said.

Earlier this week, Trump tweeted that the White House is running "very smoothly" despite "phony Witch Hunts etc.," seemingly referring to the Mueller investigation.
