Trump Ignores Questions About Roy Moore After Press Conference

November 15, 2017

President Donald Trump ignored shouted questions from reporters Wednesday about whether embattled Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore should leave the race.

Trump spoke at the White House about his recent Asia trip and said the U.S. would make beneficial trade deals, saying he focused on "fair and reciprocal trade" in his discussions.

After he concluded, reporters yelled out to ask him if Moore should "resign," presumably meaning step out of the Alabama race over allegations of sexual misconduct with teenagers while he was in his 30s.

One reporter also asked him if he believed Moore's accusers, one of whom says he sexually assaulted her in a car when she was 16. Another said he initiated a sexual encounter with her when she was 14 and he was 32.

Trump did not acknowledge the questions and walked out of the room.

Some top Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), have said Moore should pull out of the race. The Republican National Committee is also reportedly withdrawing its support for Moore.

Moore has denied the allegations and made no indications he plans to step aside from the election, which is scheduled for Dec. 12. Moore defeated incumbent Sen. Luther Strange (R., Ala.) in the primary race in September.
