Trump: I Support Planned Parenthood But Would Defund It

Donald Trump alternated between supporting Planned Parenthood and vowing to defund it for the abortion procedures it performs at the CNN Republican debate Thursday.

"As far as Planned Parenthood is concerned, I’m pro-life. I’m totally against abortion having to do with Planned Parenthood," Trump said.

He then praised Planned Parenthood for helping women.

"But millions and millions of women, cervical cancer, breast cancer, are helped by Planned Parenthood," Trump said. "So you can say whatever you want, but they have millions of women going through Planned Parenthood that are helped greatly."

Trump then said that he still would not fund Planned Parenthood.

"And I wouldn’t fund it, I would defund it, because of the abortion factor which they say is three percent, I don’t know what percentage it is, they say it’s three percent, but I would defund it because I’m pro-life," Trump said.

After condemning Planned Parenthood for a second time, he again commended the organization for their women’s health services.

"But millions of women are helped by Planned Parenthood," Trump said.

In July, Trump told The Blaze that he would "absolutely" defund Planned Parenthood after videos were released showing Planned Parenthood employees discussing the price of fetal tissue.

Then, a week and a half later, he backtracked and praised Planned Parenthood for its "good aspects."

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said Wednesday that she appreciated Trump’s "kind words."

"Well, this is one thing I agree with Donald Trump on, is that Planned Parenthood does amazing work for two and a half million patients every single year," Richards said.
