Trump Congratulates 'Deplorables' on One-Year Anniversary of 2016 Victory Over Clinton

President Donald Trump congratulated millions of his supporters on Twitter on Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of the 2016 presidential election, calling them "deplorables" as a dig at Hillary Clinton for using the term to classify half of his supporters.

His anniversary tweet included a photo of Trump and key members of his White House staff aboard Air Force One on his 13-day trip through Asia. Trump is seen smiling and giving a thumbs-up alongside White House Communications Director Hope Hicks, senior policy adviser Stephen Miller and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"Congratulations to all of the 'DEPLORABLES' and the millions of people who gave us a MASSIVE (304-227) Electoral College landslide victory!" Trump tweeted, touting his electoral college victory over Clinton.

Clinton attended a gala fundraiser in New York City last September, where she claimed that half of Trump's supporters were part of a "basket of deplorables."

"To just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," she said, drawing cheers. "Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it … But that other basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down. Nobody cares about them."

Clinton expressed regret for the comments, saying they were "grossly generalistic."

Trump supporters have embraced the "deplorables" moniker after Trump denounced Clinton's comments.
