Tom Wolf Called Out By CNN for Calling Debbie Wasserman Schultz a ‘Good Leader’

July 25, 2016

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D.) was called out by CNN’s Carol Costello on Monday for calling the outgoing chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.), a "good leader."

Costello pushed Wolf on whether Schultz is a distraction for the Democratic Party and what role she should play going forward at the Democratic National Convention. Wolf defended Schultz and said the Democratic Party needs to unite around Hillary Clinton.

Schultz announced her resignation after emails were hacked from the DNC showing senior staffers working behind the scenes to advocate for Clinton and conducting research against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) during the primary.

"But at this point, Debbie Wassermann Schultz is a distraction, isn’t she?" Costello asked.

"I think she has been a good leader," Wolf said. "She has done what she thinks she ought to do and we got to move on."

"She’s been a good leader? Did you read some of those leaked emails?" Costello asked.

"Okay, we need to move on," Wolf said. "This is about unity and I know you want to talk about that this is a side issue."

Schultz has already been booed by Democratic delegates at a convention-related event, before the proceedings officially began.
