Tom Steyer Pouring Money into Colorado, Again

Tom Steyer

Liberal billionaire Tom Steyer has his sights on Colorado again in 2016, spending more than $350,000 on research and polling in the state last year.

Complete Colorado reviewed campaign finance disclosures of Steyer’s Super PAC NextGen Climate, finding that the environmentalist is looking at another shot at the state after failing to keep Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Udall in the Senate in 2014.

Complete Colorado reports:

According to a review of federal campaign finance disclosures, Steyer’s political action committee – NextGen Climate – spent more than $357,000 on research and polling services in Colorado during 2015. In fact, from Jan. 1 to Nov. 31, NextGen put more money into Colorado research and polling firms than it spent on national outfits based in New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. Disclosures for December 2015 aren’t due to the Federal Election Commission until the end of this month.

Steyer personally gave more than $73 million into outside political groups during the 2014 election cycle, only to lose four out of seven races.

The failure was especially visible in Colorado, where environmental issues were a prominent topic during the campaign. Republican Cory Gardner defeated Udall by four points.

Steyer is again pouring millions into NextGen in another effort to make climate change a winning campaign issue.

The environment consistently ranks near the bottom of the list of the most important problem facing the country in polls.
