Tina Fey Targets Trump, Pence During ACLU Benefit

April 2, 2017

Actress Tina Fey took aim at the Trump administration during her monologue Friday night at a benefit for the American Civil Liberties Union, launching personal attacks against President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

Several Hollywood stars participated in the Stand for Rights: A Benefit for the ACLU event, including Fey, who joked about Pence's past comment that, to help stay faithful in his marriage, he never eats alone with a woman other than her and will not attend events featuring alcohol without her next to him.

She also criticized Pence for his pro-life stance on abortion.

"And right now it's not just about fighting for progress. Gains that we've made over the last hundred years are under attack," Fey said. "Luckily, Mike Pence isn't allowed to go down and shut up Planned Parenthood unless his wife goes with him, so you know if we can just keep Karen busy scrapbooking we can all still get Pap smears."

Fey then turned her attention to Trump's recent move to raise awareness of sexual assault.

"Earlier tonight in what is surely an April Fool's joke, the president proclaimed that next month will be National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. So now we know what he gave up for Lent," Fey said.

Fey was presumably referring to the video leaked during the 2016 presidential campaign that showed Trump making lewd comments about women.

The White House announced Friday that Trump has declared April to be National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month to "raise awareness about sexual abuse and recommit ourselves to fighting it."

"Women, children, and men have inherent dignity that should never be violated," the White House said in a press release.
