Swalwell: There Is Evidence That 'Merits Further Investigation' Into Possible Collusion

June 26, 2017

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.) told CNN's Jim Sciutto on Monday that there is evidence that "merits further investigation" into possible collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign associates and Russia during the 2016 election.

"You're on the [House] Intelligence Committee," Sciutto said. "Let me just ask you straight up, have you seen any evidence of potential collusion or evidence that merits further investigation of potential collusion between Trump advisoers and Russia during the campaign?"

Swalwell said there is evidence that warrants the investigation to continue, but then said evidence is "not a conclusion."

"Evidence is not a conclusion. Evidence is a collection of facts, accounts, documents, stories that has to best tested and bended and probed and then you make an evaluation," Swalwell said.

He went on to say that the FBI is also investigating potential collusion, so he believes that the investigation should continue based on the evidence.

Swalwell's position on whether there was collusion does not go as far as some of the Democrats in the Senate. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va) have both admitted there is no evidence of collusion.

Swalwell has claimed there is evidence of collusion, some of it classified, in multiple interviews, but he has also hedged by saying it does not necessarily mean one is "guilty of collusion."
