Schiff: Investigation of Obama Administration Over Unmasking a ‘Sideshow’

BY:

Rep. Adam Schiff (D., Calif.), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, called the investigation into unmasking by members of the Obama administration a "sideshow" on Wednesday.

Blitzer asked Schiff about the committee's interview with former Obama advisor Ben Rhodes Wednesday about why administration officials "unmasked" some Americans when their communications were picked up by intelligence workers. Blitzer asked Schiff if the investigation was a "political sideshow."

"It really is a sideshow," Schiff said. "There are always questions you can ask about any of the procedures that are used by the intelligence community, but we've seen no evidence of any malicious unmasking."

Schiff went on to blame this investigation on tweets sent by President Donald Trump where he accused the Obama administration of wiretapping Trump Tower. Schiff also said that politics was not involved in any unmasking.

"There's been no evidence of any politics involved in unmasking so, you know, it has unfortunately consumed a lot of time without much purpose except I think to distract from our focus," Schiff said.
