Sarah Silverman Tells 'Bernie or Bust' Crowd They're Being 'Ridiculous'

July 25, 2016

Comedian Sarah Silverman chastised the "Bernie or Bust" crowd that's created turmoil at the Democratic National Convention for being "ridiculous" during DNC remarks on Monday.

She joined Senator Al Franken (D., Minn.) on the first night of the convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to introduce musical act Paul Simon.

Silverman had time to burn and interrupted the cheering of the crowd to tell the crowd of supporters who call themselves "Bernie or Bust" that they were not bringing the party together.

"Can I just say to the Bernie or Bust people?" Silverman asked. "You're being ridiculous."

Silverman's comments were met with cheers from the audience. Earlier, the audience members were in competing chants for support for Hillary Clinton and Sanders.

Franken has been vocal about his support for Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, while Silverman said that she was a supporter of Sanders.

Earlier the pair had encouraged the crowd to chant "unity."

Leaked DNC emails revealing party officials disparaging Sanders' campaign and trying to help Clinton's led to the ouster of chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.). Sanders fans have booed Clinton's name repeatedly throughout the day, including when Sanders himself said they should vote for her in the general election.
