Republican Would Win Montana Senate Race if Election Were Held Today, Fmr Dem Gov Says

BY:

Montana’s former Democratic governor told MSNBC’s Kristen Welker on Thursday that the state’s Democratic Senator would not be sent back to Washington if the election were held today.

"If the election were held today, Steve Daines would probably win it," said former Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer, referring to the Republican frontrunner in contest for the Republican nod in the race.

The Republican nominee will likely face Sen. John Walsh (D., Mont), who was appointed to the seat by Gov. Steve Bullock this year.

"If a general election were held today, I think Daines gets to about 50% and probably Walsh gets to about 40%.," Schweitzer said.
