Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Calls Obamacare Repeal 'Dumpcare,' 'Poison,' 'Devastating'

March 24, 2017

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D., Texas) lambasted President Donald Trump's healthcare bill, describing it as "Dumpcare," "poison," and "devastating" during a Friday radio interview.

Radio host Egberto Willies interviewed Jackson Lee on his show when he asked her about the state of the bill in Congress. Jackson Lee responded by saying that she and others were being held "hostage" because the legislation contained cuts to Medicare, among other things.

"I'm standing with my colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus fighting against this devastating bill," Jackson Lee told Willies.

"We're being held hostage here in Washington," Jackson Lee said, before mentioning an $880 million cut to Medicare.

Jackson Lee also described the bill as a "poison meal," in contrast to a smaller "poison pill."

"To my constituents, we're here fighting against [the bill], because it's not a poison pill it's a poison meal," she said.

"I want the constituents to keep pressing that this bill is a Trumpcare Dumpcare, no care bill," Jackson Lee continued. "Fight against it, refuse to support it, and to help us make the Affordable Care Act better."

She further urged her constituents to tell Congress, "Take your hands off of my health care."

"This is clearly for the American people to take charge of their health care, and say, 'This is my health care, take your hands off my health care,'" Jackson Lee said. "Trumpcare is Dumpcare."
