Rep. Gallego Repeatedly Dodges Questions on Clinton’s Emails

September 8, 2016

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D., Ariz.) dodged multiple questions about Hillary Clinton’s private mail server during her tenure as secretary of state on Thursday.

Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked Gallego, a Clinton supporter, about the controversy surrounding her server, only to have Gallego dodge and change the subject.

"How do you defend this timeline when you know March of last year the subpoena went out, everything was destroyed," Hemmer said. "If you were given a subpoena, what would you do with it?"

Gallego blamed a Republican member of Congress for continuing to investigate Clinton’s email practices.

"Well, first off, let’s begin by stating the obvious, this is just another partisan witch hunt that’s being conducted by this member of congress and wasting taxpayer dollar. This has already been covered," Gallego said. "The Department of Justice has said that there was no intent at concealment, and this is why our FBI Director [James] Comey has decided to basically not go forward with any other type of investigation when it comes to this. So, this is just a desperate move. They know that Trump is sinking in the polls, and this is one of their last ditch efforts before we go out of session."

Hemmer moved on to his next question, which was also not answered.

"Would you use BleachBit on your email system?" Hemmer asked.

"I can’t comment on how other people do their processes and anything like that, especially Congress should be the last one because we actually aren’t subject to FOIA [the Freedom of Information Act]," Gallego said. "But, that being said, the Department of Justice had already talked about this. There is nothing new here. Director Comey has already said that there is nothing new here, and again, this is just part of a partisan witch hunt."

Hemmer tried to get Gallego to answer another question.

"Would you take a hammer to your personal Blackberry?" Hemmer asked.

"Again, there is–I don’t know about the tactics of every other government official and what they have to do, but this has already been covered," Gallego said. "The Department of Justice has stated that this is a non-issue, and I think it’s time to move on. And, of course, we want to waste taxpayer money on this, we can, but last time this happened she ended up looking great."

Hemmer tried to get Gallego to answer another question.

"Would you instruct a company in Nebraska to destroy all your emails and the history of your emails?" Hemmer asked.

"Again, I’m not involved in that day-to-day operations of anything of that sort, but this has been already covered by the Department of Justice. And again, we are going to just waste more taxpayer money just in the hopes of bringing down Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers to help out Donald Trump, and again, it’s not going to work," Gallego said. "As we know, the last time she stood there for eleven hours taking questions, but if we have to, we litigate this again because of partisan reasons, it’s the taxpayer that’s going to end up losing."

Hemmer then called out Gallego for not answering any of the questions.

"Okay, now I just want to take you back to your first answer about this conspiracy theory, and I ask you three specific questions as what you do with the subpoena when you have evidence that Congress wants to look at," Hemmer said. "Whether it’s the BleachBit or the hammer, this is easy stuff for voters to understand and they want to know why. Now, I’m willing to move on because I didn’t get a lot of answers here."
