Politico Reporter: Clinton 'Might Be the Only Democrat Who's Excited' About Her Book

September 12, 2017

Politico reporter Rachael Bade said Tuesday on CNN that Hillary Clinton appears to be the only Democrat excited about the release of her new book.

Bade, who covers Congress for Politico, joined host John King on "Inside Politics" to discuss Clinton's memoir, What Happened, which discusses her experiences during the 2016 presidential campaign and was officially released on Tuesday.

"From the Hill, it seems like, you know, [Clinton] might be the only Democrat who's excited in Washington about this book right now," Bade said.

She added that Clinton's swipes at fellow Democrats in her book are not helpful when the Democratic Party needs to unite if it wants to perform well in coming elections.

"Yes, the timing might be better now than next year, but Democrats right now need to unite ... and right now a lot of people are really annoyed on Capitol Hill that she's not just burning [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and [Sen. Bernie] Sanders; she's also saying [Barack] Obama should have come out and warned the nation that Russia was interfering with the democracy, saying maybe she would have gotten elected then," Bade said.

Bade then referenced a specific lawmaker, Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.), who indicated to another Politico reporter last week that he had no interest in discussing Clinton's book.

When asked whether he was excited about Clinton's book tour, Wyden said, "I've always been a looking forward kind of a guy. I think I'll leave it at that."
