O'Donnell Hits McCaskill's Reasons for Endorsing Clinton

MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell hit Sen. Claire McCaskill (D., Mo.) for her reasons for endorsing Hillary Clinton ahead of the Iowa caucuses on Monday rather than who she endorsed in 2oo8.

"I'm struck by Sen. McCaskill's appearance, because there you see the kind of turn that happens in politics all the time," O'Donnell said. "She is making an argument tonight that is opposite the arguments she made eight years ago. Eight years ago, she endorsed the inexperienced senator from Illinois over the experienced senator from New York, Hillary Clinton."

Previously in the segment, McCaskill said that Sen. Bernie SandersĀ (I., Vt.) does not have any experience and did not show any interest in foreign policy. Sanders has been a member of the Senate since 2007 and was a member of the House of Representatives and mayor of Burlington, Vermont.

During Clinton's campaign, she continually used her time as secretary of state as a qualification to become president.

"He hasn't really demonstrated the breadth and depth of knowledge that you need to lead this country in this dangerous time," McCaskill said.

McCaskill said that Sanders feels more comfortable identifying himself as a socialist more than as a Democrat. She also took the time to blame President George W. Bush for Clinton's vote for the Iraq war.

"So when you hear this from endorsers, you will almost always be able to find an opposite version of that than their background if they have been in the business long enough," O'Donnell said.
