State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland labeled the Russian government's withdrawal from its third agreement this year as "self-defeating."
"The Russian government has notified us of their decision to terminate our agreement on law enforcement cooperation and narcotics control," Nuland said, responding to questions during Wednesday's State Department press briefing.
The decision adds strain to President Obama's effort to "reset" America's relationship with Russia.
Last week, Dmitry Peskov, who acts as President Vladimir Putin's chief of staff and press secretary described Russia's view on the U.S.-Russian relationship:
‘We cannot build a bilateral relationship of friendship and partnership on our own. Unfortunately we witnessed some steps that in no way can be treated as a "reset" attitude.'
