Sen. Murray Can't Name Leader of the Democratic Party

Assistant Democratic Leader Sen. Patty Murray (D., Wash.) could not name a leader of the Democratic Party during an appearance on MSNBC on Tuesday.

"Meet the Press Daily" host Katy Tur asked Murray the relevant question towards the end of Murray's appearance.

"I ask all high-profile Democrats that come on this show and talk to me who the leader of the Democratic Party is right now. So far not a single person can give me a name. Can you give me a name today?" Tur asked.

Murray couldn't.

"Look, I think what is important right now is that as Democrats we work together to show the American people we are on their side," she said.

"So no? You can't give me a name?" Tur asked.

"I will tell you that what is important is that we allow a lot of ships to sail, so we can say who the leader of the party will be that we all get behind, and we need to listen to them," Murray said.

She then pivoted back to her previous talking point.

"What is important right now today is for Democrats to continue to show the American people we're on their side," she said. "Again, when it comes to health care or when it comes to fighting against tax cuts for the wealthy, or when it's moving to make sure that Americans get the jobs and security that they deserve."

Other notable Democrats who couldn't name their own party's leader include former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), Rep. Joe Crowley (N.Y.) and Gov. Terry McAuliffe (Va.).
