MSNBC Contributor: WH Policy Adviser 'Probably' Had His Lunch Stolen When He Was Younger

August 2, 2017

MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle said Wednesday that White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller got his lunch stolen several times in his younger life.

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace asked Barnicle what he thought White House chief of staff John Kelly's reaction was to Miller's "unprofessional" performance in the White House briefing room earlier Wednesday afternoon.

"I don't know, I mean John Kelly is used to dealing with men and women who have some caliber and some nobility, so I don't know what his estimation will be of performances like you saw from Stephen Miller today," Barnicle said.

Barnicle said that Miller probably got the "thumbs up" from President Donald Trump, and was probably praised afterwards for pushing back against the media.

"Visually and verbally, it struck me as someone taking the podium, a young guy who in his earlier life, I don't know how many times he probably had his lunch stolen from him, 'and give me the Twinkies too,' and now this was his get-back moment," Barnicle said, prompting laughter to erupt from Wallace and Hillary Clinton's 2016 communications director, Jennifer Palmieri.

Miller appeared in the press briefing room to publicly advocate, on behalf of Trump, for the Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment (RAISE) Act. This legislation, introduced by Sens. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) and David Perdue (R., Ga.), expects to cut legal immigration by half in order to raise wages and create jobs for American workers.

Miller sparred with CNN's Jim Acosta and the New York Times' Glenn Thrush during a question-and-answer session after his statement.
