Morning Joe Panel: Does Anyone Know What Hillary Clinton’s Message Is?

The panel on MSNBC’s Morning Joe said Wednesday that Hillary Clinton does not have a clear campaign message or a rationale as to why is running for president.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski challenged panelists to articulate Clinton’s message and highlighted how vague it is by comparing the Clinton campaign to the Sanders campaign.

"What’s Hillary Clinton’s message? Can somebody say what it is, in ten seconds or less?" she said. "I can tell you what Bernie Sanders’ is, I can tell you what he said yesterday. We don’t even cover him that much."

Co-host Joe Scarborough was also at a loss for words.

"I don’t know … what Hillary Clinton’s message is," he said.

He said that someone should ask Clinton to articulate why she is for running for president and referred to a famous interview between journalist Roger Mudd and presidential candidate Ted Kennedy, which some refer to as "the day the presidency was lost."

"It’s almost like you want Roger Mudd in 1979 to ask the question of Hillary Clinton that he asked of Ted Kennedy: What’s the answer? Why are you running for president? What is her answer?" he said.

Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin agreed with Brzezinski and Scarborough, and said that Clinton, unlike her husband, has never had an easy time explaining why she is running.

"She has always struggled with explaining the rationale. It’s the opposite of her husband, right, who made it so clear," he said.

Clinton has also struggled to label her political leanings. In an interview with MSNBC's Chris Matthews Tuesday, she could not describe the difference between a Democrat and a socialist, though she insisted that she was a "progressive Democrat."
