Maxine Waters: Trump 'Doesn't Deserve to Be President'

March 29, 2017

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) said multiple times on Tuesday night that President Donald Trump does not "deserve to be president," adding that she cannot honor or respect him.

"We have a president of the United States who does not deserve to be president," Waters said on MSNBC's "All In" to host Chris Hayes, who did not challenge Waters on her claim.

Hayes called Waters "outspoken" and asked her to clarify her remarks.

"He came to the presidency with the kind of character and background that made me distrust him, not honor him, and not respect him," Waters said after listing several complaints about Trump's conduct.

Waters also argued during her appearance that Trump "wrapped his arms around [Vladimir] Putin and Russia and the Kremlin."

She said she suspected that if Congress conducted an independent investigation, it would find that the Trump campaign "colluded" with Russia.

Trump "disrespected" U.S. allies, Waters argued, and "tried to dismantle comprehensive health care," among other damaging actions.

Waters appeared to suggest the Trump administration is trying to "shut" her down.

"I am not going anywhere. I'm going to stay on message. I'm going to fight for the people of this country," Waters said.

Waters has repeatedly called for Trump's impeachment since his inauguration in January and has accused the president of being part of a "Kremlin Klan" beholden to Russian intertests.
