Republican candidate for Senate Jon Keyser released a new campaign ad Tuesday, hitting Michael Bennet and President Obama for their position on the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.

Keyser, who served two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Air Force intelligence officer, released the ad amidst recent news that released detainees at the Cuba prison have launched attacks against the United States, killing up to six Americans.

"The men sent to Guantanamo deserve to be there," Keyser said. "They plotted, they schemed, and they killed. Spent their lives trying to destroy America. Now Obama and Bennet want to bring them to America–to Colorado. I’m Jon Keyser, I know what it takes to get them into Guantanamo, and as your senator I’ll make sure they never get out."

The number of former detainees who have returned to the battlefield has doubled since last year, with a total of 118 out of 676 freed former detainees confirmed by the intelligence community of reengaging in terrorist acts since 2009.

An Obama administration official admitted earlier this year at least a dozen terrorist detainees that have been released launched attacks against the United States and its allies, killing "about a half-dozen Americans."

Nevertheless, the administration has made plans to release roughly 23 current detainees.

Bennet has voted against amendments that would have prevented detainees at Guantanamo Bay from being transferred to the United States.

Colorado has been considered a potential state to transfer terrorist suspects at Guantanamo by the Obama administration, which still is seeking to close the detention facility.
