Kelly to White House Press Corps: 'It's Astounding to Me How Much Is Misreported'

US Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told the White House press corps on Thursday that the amount of misreporting they do is "astounding."

A reporter asked Kelly at the White House press briefing to "peel back the curtain" on President Donald Trump's frustrations, leading Kelly to point his finger at the media.

"One of his frustrations is you, all of you," he told members of the White House press corps. "Not all of you, but many of you."

"When I read in the morning ... and watch TV in the morning, it is astounding to me how much is misreported," Kelly continued. "I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are operating off of contacts, leaks, whatever you call them. But I would just offer you the advice and say maybe develop some better sources."

Kelly also described how Trump has been frustrated with the political process.

"Obviously his great frustration is the process that he now finds himself [in], because in his view, the solutions are obvious," Kelly said. "Whether it's tax cuts, tax reform, health care, infrastructure programs, strengthening our military—to him these all seem like obvious things that need to be done to protect the American people, bring jobs back."

"These are all the things he sees as vital to protect the American people or to advance the economy and whatnot, and the process is so slow and so hard sometimes to deal with," Kelly added.

He said that Trump specifically finds Congress frustrating, although he acknowledged that the federal government is slow-moving by design.

Earlier in Thursday's press briefing, Kelly told reporters that he would not be leaving the Trump administration, quashing rumors to the contrary. He also said then it is frustrating to see so much reporting in the media that is not true.
