Karen Finney Slams 'Political Opportunist' de Blasio for Saying Clinton Should Have Resigned Presidency

Former Hillary Clinton campaign spokesperson Karen Finney slammed New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio as a "political opportunist" on Monday for saying Bill Clinton should have resigned the presidency for his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

"I don’t think you can rework history. I think if it happened today—if any president did that today—they would have to resign," de Blasio said when asked about the story.

Longtime Clinton ally Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.) also said last week Clinton should have resigned over the affair, although she later watered it down to say she simply meant "the tolerance that we had 25 years ago ... will not be tolerated today."

Finney didn't take kindly to de Blasio's stance, saying he was a "political opportunist. Shameful. I know from working with him in 2000."

Finney and de Blasio both worked on Hillary Clinton's successful 2000 U.S. Senate run in New York; de Blasio was the campaign manager.

She added, "So convenient to say post election. So disappointed in [de Blasio] after having worked for him in 2000."

Longtime Clinton aide Phillipe Reines took to Twitter last week to castigate Gillibrand for her perceived disloyalty as well.

"Ken Starr spent $70 million on a consensual blowjob. Senate voted to keep POTUS WJC. But not enough for you @SenGillibrand? Over 20 yrs you took the Clintons’ endorsements, money, and seat. Hypocrite. Interesting strategy for 2020 primaries. Best of luck," Reines wrote.
