Kaine: My Wife ‘Dinged’ Me for Amount I Interrupted During Debate

October 5, 2016

Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.) told the audience at his rally in Philadelphia on Wednesday that his wife "dinged" him for the amount that he interrupted Indiana. Gov. Mike Pence (R.) during their vice presidential debate Tuesday night.

"So, for me, I got dinged a little bit even by my wife for, like, interrupting too much," he said. "Okay."

The crowd laughed.

Kaine had been reminiscing about his debate experience to supporters, saying that Pence should have spent more time defending his running mate, Donald Trump, as opposed to deflecting.

"I mean, your running mate ought to be able to defend you," he said. "Your running mate ought to have something nice to say about you."

Kaine then moved on and summarized the main point that the audience should take away from Tuesday’s debate.

"But the key part of that debate was, um, at some points, I felt like, both me and Mike Pence were debating Donald Trump," he said.

ABC reported that Kaine interrupted Pence 70 times during the duration of the debate.

Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate, interrupted Pence a whopping 70 times last night, including 27 times in just the first 30 minutes. Pence interrupted Kaine a total of 40 times.
