Huckabee Sanders Compares White House Press Corps to Her Young Children

September 6, 2017

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders compared the press corps to her young children on Wednesday, joking on "The View" that her kids prepared her perfectly for taking their questions.

Sanders is the first mother to hold the job of press secretary, and host Whoopi Goldberg asked her how she manages to get up in the middle of the night when President Donald Trump starts tweeting.

"How do you do everything with the kids and trying to do your job?" Goldberg asked.

"Well, I'm already up. As a parent, you're up 24/7 ... So it's an easy transition," Sanders said.

After saying she has three children, ages 5, 3, and 2, Sanders said, "They perfectly have prepared me to deal with the White House press corps," drawing laughs from the audience.

"I get to answer the same question all day long, and I've gotten pretty good at saying no, so I think my kids have been a perfect foundation for my job," she said.

The Trump administration has had a famously combative relationship with the press since taking office. While Sanders has had her share of contentious interactions with the media since taking over the job, her tenure has been less openly hostile than predecessor Sean Spicer.
