Harrington: 'So-Called Turmoil' in White House Is 'Overstated' by Media

The Washington Free Beacon's Elizabeth Harrington appeared on Fox News' "Cavuto: Coast to Coast" Thursday where she discussed the staff turnover within President Donald Trump's administration.

Substitute host Charles Payne introduced the topic, saying the turnover rate at the White House is something unseen before, "but we also have a president that's sort of unique as well."

"Right, he's unconventional," Harrington said. "And I think of the turmoil, so-called turmoil in the White House is overstated by the media, like they usually do."

She said she can't blame the media for not keeping up because after "taking eight years off during the Obama years, it must be hard for them to adjust."

"But the shake-ups this week make sense," Harrington said, pointing out that Trump fundamentally disagrees with former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on the Iran nuclear deal.

Harrington said she didn't think that level of disagreement was sustainable and is only surprised Tillerson lasted as long as he did.

Conservative commentator Jonah Goldberg pushed back on the source of turmoil in the White House, saying it was not produced by the media.

"You don't have to take the mainstream media's word for it, talk to people who work in the White House, talk to congressmen when they're not on the record," Goldberg said.

"The place is pretty chaotic," he continued. "Donald Trump fired his Secretary of State on Twitter," Goldberg said.

"No, he didn't," Harrington responded. "The story was already out. I agree there are more changes than normal, but the media makes such a big deal over a lot of positions that do not matter. I mean, they're obsessed with every single change."

Later, Harrington added that Trump wants staff that is more comfortable with his agenda and the staff changes reflect that goal.
