Harrington: Trump’s Remarks About Clinton, Second Amendment ‘Being Blown Way Out of Proportion’

The Washington Free Beacon’s Liz Harrington said Wednesday on Fox News that Donald Trump’s recent comment that Second Amendment supporters could do something to stop Hillary Clinton’s Supreme Court appointments was "being blown way out of proportion."

Trump said that his comments referred to people taking political action to make their voices heard, while opponents called it a death threat toward Clinton.

"I think this is being blown way out of proportion. I think at most this was just Second Amendment boilerplate that you would see from conservatives saying, ‘Democrats are coming for your guns,’ and we say, ‘Come and take it,’" Harrington said. "I think it was an off the hand comment, and to call this a death threat, I think is way over the top."

Harrington went on to say that if Trump’s campaign had reacted to this issue properly, the news would be focusing on Seddique Mateen appearing at a rally for Clinton this week. Mateen is the father of Omar Mateen, the terrorist who killed 49 people at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Harrington also discussed the political strength of Second Amendment supporters

"It’s a very powerful voting block, and I think it does benefit him in a way because if Hillary Clinton wants to run on a gun control platform, it’s very unpopular," Harrington said. "And I think that will move voters to support Trump and that could really energize them."
