Former Clinton Spokesman Compares Ed Gillespie to Neo-Nazis

In a Friday tweet, CNN contributor and former Hillary Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon compared Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie to white supremacists.

Fallon tweeted out an image from August of white supremacists protesting the removal of a Confederate statue in Charlottesville with the caption "live look at Ed Gillespie campaign strategy meeting."

Fallon's tweet was likely a criticism of Gillespie's stance on any remaining Confederate statues. The former RNC chairman believes that the decision should be up to localities rather than the governor, but says he personally would prefer the statues stay up.

But Gillespie actually denounced white supremacists in no uncertain terms after the protests, in which one of the neo-Nazis drove his car into counter-protesters, killing one.

"We will continue to love one another and serve one another and we reject the people who came in, largely from outside our Commonwealth, and brought their hate, their white supremacism, their neo-Nazism with them," he told a reporter.

"They need to go home and they need to take that vile hatred with them. It does not belong here in the Commonwealth of Virginia and I know my fellow Virginians and we will emerge from this stronger."
