FACT CHECK: Did Stephanie Ruhle's Mom Vote for Trump?

October 19, 2017

It now appears MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle was spreading fake news when in 2016 she told then Indiana Governor and vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence that her mother couldn't vote for then candidate Donald Trump for president.

Ruhle commented at the time about how her mom, Louise Ruhle, couldn't bring herself to vote for Trump in the wake of the Hollywood Access tape. She confronted Pence about how Trump didn't respect women.

"My mom is a lifetime Republican and she is a Catholic, but before her party, she puts being treated as an equal and with respect, and what she believes in before being a Republican," Ruhle said. "When I saw her on Saturday, she said, ‘He’s gone too far; I can’t vote for this man; he doesn’t respect you, Stephanie, and never will.’"

Something must have changed for Mrs. Ruhle because she admitted on Thursday's "Velshi and Ruhle" that she voted for Trump.

Stephanie Ruhle introduced her mother and said Trump won the election with suburban white women voters like her mom. She asked her mom what her message was for the president.

"It is 'take your parents to workday.' You know, this is my mom Louise Ruhle," Stephanie said. "President Trump won the last election. He won with suburban white women voters. One of them is sitting right next to me. Mom, you watch our show hopefully every day. President Trump watches a lot of cable news. What's your message to him?

"I did vote for you," Louise Ruhle admits. "I'm disappointed in the job you're doing. I know you didn't prepare. You're not ready for all the things that come down your way, but please work a little bit harder, listen to all the women around you and do a better job. There's always tomorrow."

Stephanie then asked her mom if she, Stephanie, was one of the women Trump should listen to. Her mom appeared to be unsure, letting a few moments pass before saying "absolutely."

Stephanie Ruhle claiming her mom wasn't voting for Trump back in 2016 isn't the first time she spread fake news.
