DNC Chair: 'Democratic Whores' Remark Was 'Outrageous and Inappropriate'

Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) publicly denounced the "Democratic whores" comment made by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) surrogate Paul Song on Wednesday night during a rally in New York City.

"...the phrase ‘Democratic whores,’ ‘we have to stop electing Democratic whores.’ And that raised a lot of eyebrows," said New Day co-host Chris Cuomo. "The speaker, Dr. Song, later on Twitter said, ‘I was talking about different Democrats in Congress, no reference to Hillary Clinton, and he said, ‘I apologize for this being insensitive.’ What is your take on this tone?"

Wasserman Schultz started by saying that even though she does not know the person, the remarks were still inappropriate. She also commended the surrogate for apologizing for the comments.

"Well, I certainly don't know the person who made that outrageous and inappropriate comment, but, it's good that he recognized that it was outrageous and inappropriate and reigned it in and apologized," she said. "But, that's what I mean is, we need to make sure that on our side of the aisle, that's the side of the aisle that I care about the most, that we are sticking to the ideas that our candidates have..."

Even though the surrogate did not name Hillary Clinton in his remarks, the public mostly took that as who it was aimed at.

Song tweeted out an apology for the misunderstanding and questionable use of vocabulary.
