Dem Rep Appears to Suggest Syria Strike Was Meant to Distract From Russia Investigation

April 11, 2017

Rep. Seth Moulton (D., Mass.) joined Tucker Carlson of Fox News on Monday night to discuss the recent missile strike on a Syrian airfield. During the exchange, Moulton appeared to imply that President Donald Trump could have bombed the Syrian base to divert attention from the investigation into his campaign's alleged ties to Russia.

The theory began around the four-minute mark, when Carlson asked the congressman how striking a Russian ally could be putting Russian interests before American interests.

"Right, right, and called the Russians to make sure they got their troops out of the way. I mean, I'm on the Armed Services Committee and he didn't consult with us before doing that, but he did feel it fine to call the Russians," Moulton said. "So it's hard to say that he wasn't concerned about the Russian troops."

The congressman tried to continue, but Carlson pushed the issue.

"Are you saying that this was part of an elaborate ruse that in fact he was working with the Russians, I think you suggested a minute ago, to divert attention from this diabolical conspiracy you've been alleging, that this was a Potemkin bombing, a fake bombing?" Carlson asked.

"No look, I didn't say it was, confirm that as an explanation. I said that is a believable, viable explanation, which is no different than what you're saying," Moulton replied before launching into a list of Trump associates who have met with Russian officials.
