'Controversial' Clinton Speech Today Has Students Upset She Gets 'Huge Check' While Tuitions Rise

October 13, 2014

Students at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas are up in arms over a $225,000 speech Hillary Clinton will deliver on Monday at the Bellagio Resort.

Students said it is irresponsible for the university to spend nearly a quarter of a million dollars on Clinton’s speech as their tuition costs continue to rise.

While a private donor covered the cost of the speech, students have questioned why the donation was not offered directly to the university.

Clinton’s appearance has fueled rage since it was announced in July. In August, the Free Beacon reported Clinton’s contract, obtained by the Las Vegas Review Journal. Local reporter Jon Ralston accused Clinton of demanding "royal treatment" in addition to her appearance fee.

"The Las Vegas Review Journal, which obtained Clinton’s contract with the UNLV Foundation, reports in addition to her speaking fee of $225,000, Clinton is demanding a private jet, a presidential suite and adjoining rooms for her entourage, and Clinton refuses to mingle with the common folk. She wants to approve any media types attending the event," Ralston said.

"We don’t have kings and queens in America, or at least we shouldn’t," he added. "But when I see the red carpet UNLV is rolling out for Hillary Clinton in two months, I start to wonder. Unless you’re a mindless partisan, the details of that contract with the UNLV Foundation should disturb you."

Clinton did not address accusations of royal demands but assured students the $225,000 fee will go to charity-- the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, of course, which focuses on global health.
