Late-night comedian Stephen Colbert is set to mock President Donald Trump in a new medium, by executive producing a satirical cartoon starring the first family of the United States.

Showtime has given the green light for ten episodes of the yet-unnamed series and described it as a "workplace comedy," the Wrap reports. Colbert will team up with his "Late Show" executive producer Chris Licht, and Showtime CEO David Nevins has expressed confidence that they are the right pair for the project.

"Stephen and Chris have an uncanny genius for deconstructing the world of President Trump, and this series opens a new realm for them," Nevins said. "Their vision will produce a comedy that makes waves, gets attention and plays great on our networks, including our streaming service."

The show will have a mockumentary style in which an imaginary documentary crew films inside the White House. Showtime's cartoon will follow Comedy Central's "The President Show," another satirical take on Trump as president.

Colbert reached stardom satirizing conservatives in Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," and he made a statement as if he were actually filming an animated president.

"I know a lot of people wanted to do this, and I'm honored that the Cartoon President invited our documentary crew into his private world," Colbert said. "I've seen some of the footage, and I look forward to sharing the man behind the MAGA."

Colbert has taken an increasingly political tone on CBS's "The Late Show," and it has brought his ratings up after a slow start, despite a wave of FCC complaints about a sexual joke directed at Trump. This show is reportedly inspired by an animated sequence from his Showtime special, "Stephen Colbert's Live Election Night Democracy's Series Finale: Who's Going to Clean up This Sh*t?"

Colbert has also used an animated Trump co-created by animator Tim Luecke on "The Late Show." Luecke will be the lead animator of Showtime's cartoon.
