CNN Compares Donald Trump to 'Death Star'

February 25, 2016

John Berman and Christine Romans, the hosts of CNN's Early Start, had a major geek moment while discussing the Republican primary by comparing frontrunner Donald Trump to the Death Star.

Berman and Romans used several Star War analogies to describe the contest Thursday morning.

"You know, to use a Star Wars analogy, I mean it's like Donald Trump is the Death Star here," Romans said. "Which one of these candidates is Luke Skywalker here who's going to be able to take him down, or can they?"

"That's a great analogy, I wish I could come back. You know, they have to ‘Stay on target, stay on target.’ You might say, for Rubio staying on target, you know, against Donald Trump does mean not going after the target. He is not taking any swings at Donald Trump," Berman said.

"Well, John, may the force be with you tonight as you stay up real late and watch that and find out just exactly what's going to happen," Romans said. "The Republican establishment at least hopes that one of them, one of those Jedi fighters will be able to take him down. But Donald Trump and his supporters, they say they are the good ones, the good guys, not the bad guys."

Surprisingly, neither host used the Princess Leia quote, "Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope," referencing the view many in the Republican Party hold toward Trump.

The last political figure to be compared to the Star Wars galaxy in such a manner was former Vice President Dick Cheney, who enjoyed the comparisons to Darth Vader.
