Clinton Supporter Mocks Idea That Trump Has Well-Educated Supporters

May 24, 2016

Hillary Clinton supporter Michael Nutter appeared to mock the idea that Donald Trump could have well-educated supporters during a CNN appearance Tuesday, sarcastically calling that an "interesting combination."

Nutter, the former mayor of Philadelphia, said Trump had "no ideas" and was only capable of attacking Clinton on the campaign trail.

"He's only talking to a smaller portion of the American public," Nutter said. "Republican voters in primaries. The general election is a totally different story ... Many more people who are engaged and involved."

"I've talked to some well-educated people who are Trump supporters, and he's appealing to them, too," CNN host Pamela Brown said.

"OK. Well, that's an interesting combination, well-educated people who are Trump supporters," Nutter said. "That's, that's, uh, you know—that's an interesting combo there. There are a whole bunch of other folks who are not Trump supporters across the United States of America."

Trump backer Gina Loudon cut in after that slight.

"I'm sorry, sir. What are you saying about Mr. Trump's supporters? What are you saying about Mr. Trump's supporters, sir, that we're not well-educated?" she asked.

"Mr. Trump's supporters are Mr. Trump's supporters," Cutter said. "No, I never said that."

Loudon said it was a "gross generalization."

"I think when you make assertions like that you don't do your candidate any credit," she said.

Cutter denied he'd made that insult, calling it "nice spin."
