NYT Reporter: Clinton Needs to Be Careful When Testifying This Week

October 18, 2015

Hillary Clinton is scheduled to testify this week before the House Select Committee on Benghazi. On Sunday's CNN Inside Politics the panel warned that Clinton needs to be careful of what she says and how she says it.

Host John King asked if  there was a risk to Clinton if she claimed that the hearing was all about politics. On multiple occasions Clinton has accused the committee of being a partisan attack against her to bring down her poll numbers.

New York Times reporter Julie Davis said that Clinton runs a risk about the way she approaches the questions and her demeanor.

Davis brought up Clinton's now infamous quote on the attacks at Benghazi, "At this time, what difference does it make?" Davis said the quote brought up a lot of questions about Clinton and raises the stakes against her.

"In one of the first hearings on Capitol Hill about Benghazi she came across as quite defensive and that really hurt her," Davis said.

Davis added that Clinton's campaign is working on how she comes across and to make sure that she is answering questions on Benghazi.

"She needs to make sure that she is addressing the questions and at the same time not seeming to legitimize the what she says is a completely partisan exercise," Davis said.

On Friday, behind closed doors, Clinton's long time aide Huma Abedin was questioned by the committee for six hours. Abedin said that she answered the questions to honor the service that of the those who had died in the attack. Abedin also said that she would not be answering anymore questions on the subject.
