Chelsea Clinton Blanches at Question About Hillary Not Taking Responsibility for Election Loss

May 31, 2017

Chelsea Clinton did not appear to take kindly to a question on "The View" Wednesday about her mother failing to take full responsibility for her 2016 election loss to Donald Trump.

On the program to discuss her new children's book, She Persisted, Clinton dished with the friendly hosts about her family life until Jedediah Bila, the show's token non-liberal, brought up Hillary Clinton blaming her election loss on former FBI Director James Comey and Russian interference.

"A lot of her supporters felt that they wanted to see more from her in that moment," Bila said. "They wanted her to take some personal responsibility for voters' trust issues with her, for maybe the Democratic Party not having a great ground game in some states and not having messaging in some states that was really good so that they can fix the problem moving forward."

Chelsea Clinton stared blankly as Bila went through her question, and "The View" co-host Sara Haines glared at Bila.

"Has she changed her mind about how to approach this topic, to kind of ease her supporters' worries and maybe facilitate growth for the party in the future?" Bila asked.

Clinton smiled and said there were "lots of questions in there."

"I had the privilege of campaigning in so many states for her, and I met so many of the remarkable organizers and volunteers, and as she said, she's never going to blame her team," Clinton said.

The former first daughter went on to say her mother was proud of the "swell" in the country fighting to resist Trump on issues like health care and climate change. She said her focus was on her children and that she had a responsibility to build the right world for them to grow up in.

The crowd applauded.

Joy Behar defended Hillary Clinton, saying the failed presidential candidate had taken "some of the blame" for her loss. The crowd applauded again.

Haines assured the former first daughter that she and the other hosts "may love your mother more than you do."
