A majority of celebrities who "Felt the Bern" are dragging their feet or are outright refusing to switch their endorsement from Bernie Sander to Hillary Clinton despite ongoing efforts by the Democratic National Committee
Susan Sarandon made headlines when she said that she believes Trump is "less dangerous" than Clinton while being interviewed on The Young Turks in early June. Sarandon was particularly critical of Clinton’s foreign policy stances, accusing the presumptive Democratic nominee of being "not transparent" and a "liar."
The actress Rosario Dawson posted an unflattering list of Clinton’s accomplishments in response to a Clinton fan on Twitter: "Iraq/Libya/Syria/Honduras, death trains, voting for wall, disastrous trade deals, fracking, Panama Papers, Patriot Act."
"Um, give me a reason to think party unity esp. before the convention let alone above accountability & transparency!" Dawon wrote in a follow-up tweet.
A large majority of celebrities who endorsed Sanders have so far chosen to remain silent or deflected questions about their future political stances since Clinton was declared the presumptive Democratic nominee. Shailene Woodley and Neil Young were directly asked who they would vote for, and both gave vague answers.
Not all of Sanders’s high-profile supporters have remained intransigent. Will Farrell changed his endorsement in February and Margaret Cho said that she supports both candidates.
"For me, if Hillary is the nominee," said Jerry Greenfield of Ben and Jerry’s. "I will support her." Greenfield’s business partner Ben Cohen was much more dismissive in his answer, saying on one hand "it would be pretty hard for me to support [Clinton]," but also called Trump "the worst presidential nominee I’ve ever seen in my life by a factor of 1000."
Anti-Clinton sentiment still runs high in the Sanders camp as the Democratic National Convention approaches, despite efforts to heal wounds inflicted during the heated primary campaign. A recent poll indicates that nearly half of Sanders’ supporters are unlikely to vote for Clinton.
