Sen. Ben Cardin (D., Md.) said Tuesday he wants to ask questions of secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel and his positions on Iran, gays in the military, and his use of the term “Jewish lobby,” and declined to make a prediction about the likelihood of Hagel’s confirmation.
“All right, we’ve walked through about 15 questions you have for him,” CNN’s Soledad O’Brien asked the Maryland Democrat. “Do you think, at the end of the day, he’s going to be confirmed, realistically?”
“Normally, we allow the president to get his team in place,” Cardin replied. “But it is an independent process and I think it’s too early to make a prediction as to how his confirmation process will go.”
