California Attorney General: Trump Should 'Be Careful' if He's in a 'Dark Alley With Maxine Waters'

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra on Monday fiercely defended Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) from attacks made by President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell played a clip from a rally Saturday where the president criticized Waters for her continued calls for Trump's impeachment, referring to the congresswoman as "a very low IQ individual."

Trump mocked how Waters has continually called for his impeachment, regardless of whether he's done anything wrong.

"She's a low IQ individual," he said. "You can't help it. She really is."

Becerra, a former Democratic representative, responded to Trump's remarks by saying the president was too "afraid" to make such comments to Waters in person.

"I think Donald Trump probably said that from 2,000 miles away from Maxine Waters because he's probably too afraid to say it to her face," Becerra said.

He then defended Waters as one of the "greatest champions that consumers have ever had, that families have ever had," before attempting another taunt.

"I suspect that Donald Trump would be afraid to come up to her and actually say something like that to her because Maxine Waters won't stand for that. It's unfortunate he used that kind of language about someone who's been a public servant for so many years," he said.

"Maxine can take care of herself, and I would urge Donald Trump to be careful if he ever finds himself in a dark alley with Maxine Waters," Becerra said.
