Bill Clinton's former White House chief of staff, Mack McLarty, said Monday on MSNBC that Democrats need to stand for more than just opposing President Donald Trump.
Host Hallie Jackson prompted the comment by highlighting an ABC News/Washington Post poll showing that only 37 percent of Americans think the Democratic Party stands for something. A majority of voters, 52 percent, say the party only stands for being against Trump, according to the poll.
"Is that a winning message for Democrats?" Jackson asked McLarty.
"Unlikely. They've got to do more than just be against Trump," McLarty said. "That won't do it and it shouldn't do it. The American people, Hallie, deserve better."
