Arizona Democratic gubernatorial candidate Fred DuVal is being called "the worst of politics" by his Republican opponent, who points to DuVal's long career as a lobbyist and Washington, D.C., insider in a new ad.

The Washington Free Beacon reported earlier this month that despite DuVal's attempt to present himself as a candidate that would reach across the aisle to Republicans, a look at his career history shows that it has been spent almost entirely working with partisan Democrats or lobbying Democrats he had already built a relationship with.

DuVal is attempting to make ethics and lobbying reform a main issue of his campaign despite his long career as a lobbyist.

Republican Doug Ducey is trying to set the record straight with a new ad "Fred DuVal: Worst."

"Fred DuVal's job experience is as a lobbyist" that put "special interests ahead of the public interest," states the ad. "Lobbyist; Washington insider; the worst of politics."

The ad also points to DuVal's work in New Mexico as a consultant for UBS when Gov. Bill Richardson (D.) was in office, which was explained in the previous Free Beacon report.

DuVal & Associates was hired by UBS Financial Services to assist in bond deals it was working on from 2001 to 2005. DuVal was deployed almost solely to states that had Democratic governors that he likely would already have had a good relationship with. [...]

Included was work in New Mexico during the administration of Bill Richardson, while DuVal was director of Richardson’s Si Se Puede! PAC. DuVal landed UBS the sale of $1.1 billion of bonds for the New Mexico Finance Authority in April 2004. DuVal later would contribute $1,000 to Richardson’s presidential campaign.

Ducey was formerly the CEO of Cold Stone Creamery, which he founded. He left the position to become Arizona's State Treasurer.
