Obamacare Causes Atlanta Hospital To Lose $45 Million In Funding

The Obama administration and Democrats paint a pretty picture of Obamacare, but the real repercussions of it tell a rather ugly story, WSB-TV reports.

Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta, finds itself face-to-face with a $45 million funding loss due to Obamacare. The new health care law was intended to aid the hospital, but it will do more harm than good, according to patients and the hospital’s CEO, John Haupert. "The impact to Grady when it's fully implemented will be a loss of $45 million a year in funding," Haupert said.

One Grady patient, Danielle Words, says she is uninsured and uses Grady as a "safety net" because it provides services to thousands of uninsured Georgians. Words expressed her worry, "If I didn’t have this resource, I’d be in really big trouble. It’s very important to me."

In addition to putting Grady’s patients’ in jeopardy to receive services, Obamacare also slashed federal funding hospitals that provide care for the poor, like those patients at Grady. The law was intended to expand Medicaid "to offset those losses." The U.S. Supreme Court, however, ruled that Medicaid expansion be an issue decided by each state, as they deem best. Gov. Nathan Deal ultimately concluded that Georgia could not afford it.
