Trump: Kim Jong-un 'Made a Very Wise and Well Reasoned Decision' to Back Off Threats

Kim Jong-Un signs the order to carry out the test-fire of the intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-14 at an undisclosed location

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made a "very wise" decision to back off threats to attack Guam, tweeting the alternative would have been unacceptable.

North Korea's dictator backed off recent bellicose rhetoric that he would fire nuclear-armed missiles at Guam, a U.S. territory in the Pacific Ocean, according to press reports.

Trump, who said last week that "fire and fury" would be brought on Kim if he continued his nuclear threats against the U.S, tweeted, "Kim Jong Un of North Korea made a very wise and well reasoned decision. The alternative would have been both catastrophic and unacceptable!"

Trump was active on Twitter on Wednesday, retweeting a supporter who praised his performance at a press conference Tuesday that was supposed to be about infrastructure but quickly veered into his response to white nationalist violence in Charlottesville, Va. Trump again received sharp criticism for saying "both sides" carried blame for the bloodshed.

He attacked Amazon, which owns the Washington Post, for "doing great damage to tax paying retailers." The Post castigated Trump on Tuesday with an editorial on his press conference rhetoric, saying Trump had declared he had the backs of white supremacists.

Trump also offered his congratulations to former state Supreme Court justice Roy Moore and Sen. Luther Strange (R., Ala.), the latter of whom he endorsed, for advancing to a runoff in Alabama's Republican Senate primary. Trump then congratulated Provo Mayor John Curtis for winning the Utah GOP nomination for the race to replace former Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz.
