Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) said Tuesday that while Sec. Hillary Clinton's claim of responsibility for the security in Benghazi is "laudable," the ultimate responsibility lies with President Obama.
Joined by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) and Kelly Ayotte (R., N.H.), McCain released a statement late Monday raising questions about what caused the security lapses in Libya and why the White House continued a false narrative about the events preceding the attack.
In a Tuesday interview with Martha MacCallum, McCain called the administration's response either "willful deception or a degree of incompetence and failure to understand fundamental facts on the ground."
McCain also criticized the time it took the administration to correct the sequence of events in the attack at the U.S. Consulate last month.
"Why didn't he know that many days later? Why didn't have that information?" McCain asked in the Tuesday interview. "Could it be that he had to fly out to Las Vegas?"
