SuperCut: Hillary Clinton Swears Repeatedly She Never Had Classified Information on Her Private Server

July 8, 2016

Hillary Clinton claimed repeatedly during the lengthy run of her email scandal that she never sent nor received classified information on her private, nonsecure server while at the State Department.

She claimed it during debates, at rallies, during press conferences, and in interviews with NBC, MSNBC, CBS and Fox News, among other media outlets. We counted 22 separate times Clinton has made that claim since her server came to light last year.

FBI Director James Comey fully rebuked that notion with this statement on Tuesday:

From the group of 30,000 emails returned to the State Department, 110 emails in 52 email chains have been determined by the owning agency to contain classified information at the time they were sent or received. Eight of those chains contained information that was Top Secret at the time they were sent. Thirty-six chains contained Secret information at the time, and eight contained Confidential information, which is the lowest level of classification.

Comey also rebuked Clinton’s clarification that she never sent nor received any emails "marked classified" "at the time," pointing to practices of up-classification by the State Department and other agencies.

The FBI Director said:

Only a very small number of the emails containing classified information bore markings indicating the presence of classified information. But even if information is not marked ‘classified’ in an email, participants who know or should know that the subject matter is classified are still obligated to protect it.

Hopefully, this SuperCut will clear up any more notions that Clinton was telling the truth about her email server at any point over the past 15 months.

Clinton is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.
