Burton: We're not New Democrats

The co-founder of the Obama-aligned super PAC Priorities USA criticized New Democrats, in a Wednesday interview on the Bill Press Show.

BILL PRESS: So why did some Democrats come out and say, it's not fair for you and others, and for the president to talk about Bain Capital?

BILL BURTON: I think that we're the Democratic Party and there's always a wide range of opinions of what we should do. There is this wing of the party -- this New Democrat -- where they think that you should be kinder to the business community and coddle Wall Street and things like that, which it's just not our opinion. For starters, we're not running against an industry, we're not even running against that company--Bain Capital--we're just saying: If Mitt Romney says that his business experience would make him a better president, let's look at what his business experience was so that people can make that determination for themselves, that, actually, it would not make him a better president, it would make him a president. Secondly, here's the thing we know: In Washington, there may be a group of people who think that this isn't a fair way to talk about Mitt Romney's business experience, but if you talk to voters in Richmond and Ohio, where there's been independent focus groups--Stan Greenberg's done some, Wal-mart actually did some, PPP's done polling, Purple State Strategies did one which is a bipartisan firm--they all say the same thing: That when people get more information about Mitt Romney's business experience, they have real pause about voting for him for president, and they were actually reciting back our ads in the focus groups. So we know the ads are up, they're working, and we're going to keep going on this.
